Colonia Football Team Tops New Brunswick

Colonia downed New Brunswick, 48-14.

The Colonia High School football team took an early lead on New Brunswick and never let up in a 48-14 win this week, according to nj.com.

Colonia scored the first three touchdowns, and finished with seven total, including an interception return to cap the scoring in the fourth quarter.

Tennis Adewusi threw three touchdown passes, including a 12-yard pass to Elijah Williams; a 70-yard pass to Sam Pero; and a 70-yard pass to Raul Cardona. He rushed for another, a 34-yard dash to the end zone to open the scoring in the first quarter. Pero also scored on a 3-yard run in the second quarter. Soloman Manning added a 25-yard run for a touchdown.

Maurice Ffrench accounted for both of New Brunswick's touchdowns. He scored on a 4-yard run in the second quarter. In the fourth, he caught a 26-yard pass from Kristian Tejada for a score.

Colonia improved to 2-1 and visits Perth Amboy on Friday night, 7 p.m.

Also on the gridiron, Woodbridge fell to Monroe, 49-0, according to nj.com.

Boys' soccer

Woodbridge picked up its first win of the season, a 3-1 win over Franklin, according to nj.com. Steven Luzuriaga scored two of the three goals, and Daniel Macaulay-Smith scored the other. Each player also had an assist, as did Eugene Frimpong.

Rob Parker and Sean Torres split time in goal, making a total of six saves. Later in the week, Woodbridge (1-9) dropped a 2-0 decision to Colonia and suffered a 3-0 loss to South Plainfield.

Gabe Forero and Jacob Szlachta scored for Colonia in its win over Woodbridge.

Girls' soccer

After a 3-0 win over Colonia to start the week, Woodbridge dropped a 4-2 decision against Monroe and suffered a 3-1 loss to J.P. Stevens. Woodbridge is now 5-4 on the season.

Hadiza Mamman scored twice against  Colonia. Alexus Fuentes had a goal and an assist against Colonia, and Corinne Kist had an assist. 

Corinne Kist and Hadiza Mamman scored against Monroe, with assists from Alexus Fuentes and Nicolette Hedler. Goalie Maura Walsh made seven saves.

Hadiza Mamman accounted for Woodbridge's only goal in the loss to J.P. Stevens. Keeper Maura Walsh had 10 saves.
