POLL: Should St. Cecelia's School Close?

The parents and administrators did everything they could to keep St. Cecelia's School in Iselin open. Should they get another chance?

With the announcement that St. Cecelia's, a Catholic elementary school in the Iselin section of Woodbridge, would be , a lot of alumni of the school have felt a huge sense of loss.

Catholic schools don't just educate Catholics kids anymore. Children of all faiths are sent by their parents to Catholic schools for what they feel is a more personal and better education than what they find in the public school system.

The Metuchen diocese has said that the other Catholic schools in the township, such as and , are in good shape enrollment-wise, and don't face being shut down.

Be that as it may, do you think closing St. Cecelia's is a good idea? Do you think a way should be found to keep it open? What do you think of the value of a Catholic education?

Take our poll and tell us! (And if you're a St. Cecelia alum or parent, post and tell us what you remember, and what you think.)

Should St. Cecelia's School Close? Today it’s about the enrolment. If a school does not have enough students it just can’t go on. The expense to the Parish and the tuition cost just do not make sense. You do have to pay Teachers a higher wage today than when there were Nuns who took a vow of poverty and did not get a salary and did a great job educating. It’s very unfortunate that this is a reality today.
