The Diocese of Metuchen will host a program January 26 to help Catholics better understand their biblical foundations and to explore Catholic beliefs, as revealed through Scripture. The topic will be on What the Bible Says About the Marginalized.
The program takes place from 7 pm 9 pm at the St. John Neumann Pastoral Care Center in Piscataway, 146 Metlars Lane in Piscataway.
Rev. Abraham Orapankal, Parochial Vicar at St. Bartholomew Parish in East Brunswick, will present the fourth installment of “The Bible: Root of our Catholic Faith” series – an eight-part adult faith formation program that began in September 2011.

Through an engaging audio-visual presentation, Rev. Orapankal will convey how the bible challenges the faithful to make a “preferential option for the poor,” also a frequent teaching of Blessed John Paul II. Participants will be encouraged to read the Word of God with “new eyes” so they may be in solidarity with the most vulnerable human communities among us.
Prior to ministering at St. Bartholomew, Rev. Orapankal was a national presenter and retreat director for RENEW International, a Roman Catholic ministry organization that fosters spiritual renewal in the Catholic tradition by empowering individuals and communities to encounter God in everyday life, deepen and share faith, and connect faith with action.

Sponsored by the Diocesan Office for Catechesis, the series runs once-a-month through May 2012. Sessions take place once a month on Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the St. John Neumann Pastoral Center in Piscataway. Participants are not required to attend all sessions.
Diocesan priests serve as presenters in their individual areas of expertise. Past topics have been: What the Bible Says About Stewardship, What the Bible Says About Mary and What the Bible Says About the Birth of Chris. Upcoming topics include: What the Bible Says About Creation/Science, What the Bible Says About Following Christ, What the Bible Says About Music, What the Bible Says About Peace.
The program is free and is open to all who want to know more about biblical tradition as it relates to Bible Scripture, and especially is intended as a resource for those who are involved in their parish ministries including: deacons, RCIA candidates and sponsors, evangelization and adult faith formation teams, catechists and parish catechetical leaders, Catholic school teachers, young adults, youth ministers, pastoral council members and liturgical ministers.
