And Recognizing Local Lead for Diversity High Schools
Students, faculty and administration from area high schools that have participated in the American Conference on Diversity’s Lead for Diversity program will also be recognized. Lead for Diversity is a week-long peer leadership program open to all high school students in New Jersey. A cornerstone of the American Conference on Diversity Youth Leadership Institute, the goal year-long program is to teach students the peer leadership, conflict resolution, and human relations skills necessary for success in a diverse world. During the program’s one-week summer program which initiates the program, each student develops an Action Plan to help reduce prejudice and promote inclusion within their own school communities, and works closely with a faculty advisor throughout the academic year to implement that Action Plan in their schools. Results show that Lead for Diversity graduates are better prepared to utilize the skills they acquire by participating in this program as they enter the greater community, schools of higher education, and the workforce.
Lead for Diversity high schools to be recognized are:
- Franklin High School
- Gill St. Bernard’s School
- Piscataway High School
- Spotswood High School
