Despite School Closing Notice, St. Cecelia's Golden Knights Will Go On

The Iselin-based Catholic schools youth sports program has every intention of continuing after St. Cecelia's closes in June.

, but its youth sports program, the Golden Knights, is keeping its doors open. 

Despite the sad news that the school will be shutting down at the end of the school term this year, the Golden Knights will be accepting registrations for the upcoming 2012 Pop Warner Football and Cheerleading Season.  

"The Golden Knights are still standing, better than ever," said Lou Truppa, president of the athletic organization.

Entering their 50th year of providing athletics to the youth of the township, Truppa said the Golden Knights look to continue their long tradition of success, both on and off the field.  

They will be holding Pop Warner Football and Cheerleading registration dates over the next few months in the at 45 Wilus Way.

Registration dates are: 

  • Tuesday: 3/6, 4/17, 5/8, 5/22, from 6:30 pm to 8 pm
  • Thursday: 3/29, 4/26 from 6:30 pm to 8 pm 
  • Saturday: 4/21, 5/19 from 12 noon to 3 pm

"We're looking to continue a top quality athletic program in which our youth participate," Truppa said. 

With their 7 National Pop Warner Cheerleading titles, 10 Raritan Valley Football  Conference Titles, numerous Basketball local championships and Recreation  Cheerleading titles from State championships to being Crown World’s Best in  Virginia Beach, the St. Cecelia's Golden Knights will not be throwing in the towel.  

The Golden Knights successes continue into the classroom as well, Truppa said. Last year, they had 6 National  First Team Pop Warner Scholar Athletes, 11 Second Team and 2 Honorable  Mention. In 2012, the Golden Knights had 13 of the Raritan Valleys 25 Eastern Region Scholar Athletes. 

"We're here for the kids," Truppa promised.
