'Buy a Brick' Deadline is Thursday for Mawbey St. School's 50th Anniversary

The elementary school needs patrons to buy a $30 brick by tomorrow so they can put together an anniversary walkway.

Mawbey Street School is celebrating their 50th anniversary, and they need your help to help them make history.

The school is putting together a brick walkway fundraiser, and they need to sell more bricks by tomorrow to make it pay for itself.

So far, the elementary school's PTO has sold 115 of the smaller bricks and 25 of the larger, all of which can be engraved with several lines to your favorite person, cause, or charity.

The smaller bricks are $30 each and include three lines of engraving. The larger ones - with six lines of that can be engraved, perfect for businesses - are $100 each.

The walkway will be about 160 sq. ft., and Anna Mastrola of the Mawbey Street School PTO said they need to sell a total of 700 bricks to fashion the walkway.

"We'll be purchasing plain paver bricks to make up the difference," Mastrola said.

The brick path, which will be located in back of the school, is set to be dedicated in November, for the school's 50th anniversary celebration.

The work to complete the brick walkway is being donated by Mario Grano & Sons, Mastrola said. The school is located behind the old Mauro Motors building in Woodbridge Proper.

If you are a Mawbey Street alumnus or you know someone who is, buying a brick is a perfect way to stay true to your old elementary school (and it makes a great Christmas gift.)

All money raised from the walkway will go to the school's PTO, to help them purchase enrichment programs and other enhancements for the school children.

The deadline is Thursday, September 27. Bricks can be purchased via credit card and it can be done over the telephone. Call Anna at 732-322-8149 to buy a brick.
