Designer Find: A Jersey Shore Pearl

A great designer find down the shore, Recycling the Past is hard to beat for inspiration and plain old cool stuff!

Our most recent designer highlight is a New Jersey treasure trove: a little store called “Recycling the Past” in Barnegat, NJ.

Interior design is all about creativity and being inspired by objects. In some of my design research for a recent office redesign, I stumbled upon Recycling the Past, which definitely falls under the category “whats great in the Garden State!” Recycling the Past is a business that is based on inspiration from “found” objects and is an amazing resource for designers, homeowners, and artists alike.

The Recyling the Past website is filled with vintage objects from the past, salvaged materials and industrial scraps, all looking for a new life. Not only do the people at Recycling the Past see the potential, but they are helping others to see it to! Each item on there website is listed with a great description, a mini-history lesson and some creative ideas for use.

Check out Funky Finds (page 2) to see the amazing reclaimed glass, Item FF2721. The scale of the glass, along with the natural state, lends its appeal to use as breathtaking sculptures or as one of kind landscaping detail.

Funkadelics, Item FF4091 shows a vintage clawfoot tub, which expresses genius in its design intent by having sliced one side of the tub to create a conversation starter of a sofa!

And the glass fishing floats, Item FF381 under Nautical are amazing in their original condition, looking like the perfect accent piece to add to a room; sitting in a bowl on your buffet table.

The website alone is hours of design inspiration whether from the steel industrial products turned table bases, or vintage signs, perfect for creating atmosphere in your space. And by "recycling the past" we are indeed lending a hand to the green design movement in a fun, creative way!

Take a peek at their site, and on your next trip to the Jersey shore make sure to pull your feet out of the sand and find enough time to stop by and pick up your very own treasure from Recycling the Past, Jersey’s little known treasure chest.
