Town and BOE Land Swaps Will Turn Old Outlook Avenue School into Senior Housing

Two ordinances that will transform land swaps between the town and Board of Ed's old Outlook Ave. schoo into senior housing top the Woodbridge Council agenda for tonight.

The Woodbridge Council is proposing two amendments tonight: one that would swap land between the town and the Board of Education, and then, to transfer the formerly BOE-owned land to the Woodbridge Affordable Housing Corporation (WAHC) to create 62 units of housing for senior citizens.

The Council will address both first-reading ordinances at their meeting, slated for 7 pm at Woodbridge Town Hall tonight.

The BOE-owned parcel - Block 425.05, Lot 8 - is the former Outlook Avenue School in the Colonia section of Woodbridge. The Board tried to sell the school and land back in 2011 for $1.660 million without result.

It will be swapped with the Township for its land, known on the tax maps as Block 1065, Lot 3, which appears to be property located in the vicinity of Dawn Drive and Turner Street, as described on njparcels.com.

Neither ordinance on the Woodbridge Township website gives the street address for either plot of land.

The second ordinance says it will convey the land swapped from the BOE to the Woodbridge Affordable Housing Corporation (WAHC) for the construction of senior housing.

WAHC will enter into an agreement with MBI Development Company for the housing construction, according to the ordinance.
