The Problem of Poverty in Middlesex County Will Be Discussed at MCC Forum

Middlesex County College will host a county-wide discussion on poverty at the college on Oct. 19.

The state of poverty in Middlesex County will be the topic of discussion at a Poverty Forum, to be held on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at Middlesex County College in Edison. 

The forum will take place at 6 pm in Crabiel Hall on the college campus.

According to a release from the county, participating entities include the Poverty Research Institute of Legal Services of New Jersey, the Middlesex County Human Services Advisory Council, the Rutgers Bonner Student Leaders in Civic Engagement and Service Education, and Middlesex County College’s Democracy House students.

Featured speakers will include Bill Waldman of the Rutgers School of Social Work, who will discuss the "Vanishing Middle Class." 

Lisanne Finston of Elijah's Promise will discuss food security, Sen. Joseph Vitale will speak on healthcare, and Eileen O'Donnell, executive director of Coming Home of Middlesex County, will talk about affordable housing, along with Melissa Bellamy of the Division of Housing and Social Services, according to the release.

Participants will also have the opportunity to engage in group discussions about the topics covered.
