State Will Pay for Roadwork on Two Woodbridge Streets

will be on the receiving end of a $210,500 state grant to improve two local roads.

The NJ Department of Transportation (NJDOT) announced Friday that Woodbridge, along with 23 other Middlesex County municipalities, will share in $5.7 million in Local Aid Grants for street improvements, rehabilitation, and safety projects.

The state grant will be used to remill and resurface Correja Avenue and Charles Street, both in Iselin.

Those streets are two of 35 roads the township is planning to refurbish this year. There was no mention of when the township plans to begin work on the Iselin projects.

Nearby Edison will received $200,000 for the first phase of resurfacing Talmadge Road, while Metuchen will get $250,000 for improvements to Liberty Street. Perth Amboy was also on the list to $191,600 for work on Watson Avenue, Davidson Street, Bertrand Street, Gifford Street, and Stockton Street.

The grants were awarded under the Municipal Aid program, and the Christie Administration, though NJDOT, explained how the money would "advance local projects without placing a burden on local property taxpayers."
