The news that a came as a shock to at least one councilman Sunday. That is when nj.com ran a report that a pot warehouse is going to be opening in the shuttered 6th Ave. Electronics building on Route 1 near ShopRite.
Mayor John McCormac told nj.com he had known about it for at least a year, and that he 'welcomed' the pot clinic opening in the township. Other towns, such as Freehold, have fought vigorously to keep pot dispensaries and warehouses out of their towns for fear of crime that they believe such an establishment brings with it.
In California, where there are extremely lax rules regarding who grows and sells marijuana that is allegedly for medical use, the Los Angeles city council moved in July to shut down all the storefront pot shops that had popped up.
A recent study, though, said there is little correlation between medical marijuana dispensaries and increases in crime.
What do you think? Should there be public hearings before the medical marijuana dispensary opens in Woodbridge? Shoudl residents have been told about this before it was a done deal? Should the mayor have at least told the town council this was in the works?
Take the poll and tell us what you think.
