NWS Cancels Small Stream Flood Alert

Rain to continue over the weekend.

Update:

The National Weather Service (NWS) has cancelled its small stream flood advisory for the Middlesex County area.

More than an inch of rain has fallen since early Friday morning and there's more to come, according to the NWS, who earlier issued a flood alert for the local region on Friday, Sept 24.

Given the saturated conditions from Hurricane Irene and subsequent rain, Woodbridge residents in flood-prone areas should be on the lookout for excessive water conditions.

Homeowners who live in the following areas should move their vehicles to higher ground and be prepared to evacuate if they receive a Reverse 911 call from township authorities are:

In Woodbridge Proper:

  • Crampton Avenue
  • Heidelberg Avenue
  • Pearl Avenue
  • Vesper Avenue
  • Von Vetchen Avenue
  • Watson Avenue

In Avenel:

  • Christina Drive
  • Coke Ave.
  • East Coddington St.
  • Freddie Alison Drive
  • Helen Ave.
  • Jay St.
  • Jessie Lane
  • Joey Lane
  • St. Mary Way
  • and residents in the Ideal Mobile Home Park

In Colonia:

  • Brookside Court
  • Chain O’Hills Road
  • Maplewood Ave.
  • McFarlane Road
  • New Dover Road
  • North Hill Road

Township officials, including the Office of Emergency Management, the Woodbridge Police Department, and the Department of Public Works are monitoring local storm conditions, and "stand ready to implement appropriate public safety alerts and operations should the predicted storm result in flooding of low-lying areas," the office of Mayor John McCormac said in a statement.

Authorities encourage township residents to watch Woodbridge TV-35 and to check the town's website for more info.
