Medical Marijuana Center Set to Open in Woodbridge as Early as September

On May 2, the Assembly Budget Committee announced approval of the Woodbridge facility.

A medical marijuana center could open in Woodbridge as early as this September, following the approval by State officials at an Assembly Budget Committee hearing on May 2, according to NJ Spotlight.

The Woodbridge location, Compassionate Care Center of America Foundation Inc. plans to be open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

At the meeting, State Health Commissioner Mary E. O’Dowd announced the approval of the medical marijuana facility in Woodbridge, adding that a letter was sent to the foundation’s owner, David Weisser on April 25.

Compassionate Care Center of America Foundation Inc. will be located at 950 U.S. Highway 1 North in Woodbridge (formerly 6th Avenue Electronics) and is already listed on the State of NJ Department of Health’s website as an Alternative Treatment Center with “Operations Pending.”

As of now, Greenleaf Compassion Center in Montclair is the only operational center in New Jersey, according to the site. Around the same time the Woodbridge facility is set to open, another location has been approved to open in Egg Harbor.

“Health officials have emphasized that they are working to “pre-inspect” the Egg Harbor and Woodbridge facilities so that they will be able to open quickly once they have grown the plants and completed the buildings,” the NJ Spotlight report states.

According to O’Dowd, 900 residents have already registered to receive medical marijuana.

Patch previously reported that Mayor John E. McCormac was quoted in nj.com that the facility would be a benefit to Woodbridge residents who need it.

McCormac said in the nj.com report, "unlike many towns, we’re welcoming them to Woodbridge."

He added in a past Patch report in September of 2012, "It's a retail use turning into another retail use."
