Mayor Kicks Off 'We Feed Woodbridge' Campaign for 2012

Mayor John McCormac is encouraging its corporate citizens and town residents to 'do more' because the need in a tough economy to replenish town food banks is so great.

Once again, Woodbridge is asking for the generous help of its residents and businesses.

Mayor John McCormac kicked off the 2012 "Have a Heart" Food Drive, an effort to get businesses and corporate citizens to donate 214 lbs. of food or $214 by Valentine's Day to help replenish depleted township food banks.

McCormac said the languishing economy demands "that we do just a little more."

In an conference at the , the mayor was joined by the managers of two of Woodbridge's anchor supermarkets, Tim Lockwood of and Bill Caulfield of , who were there to show their support.

As with , supermarkets donated huge amounts of food to help those in need.

Their efforts are being coordinated by , the chairman of the event who helps organize food distribution to the town's free food sites.

"Don’t delay! We need your help now! The cupboards are nearly bare! I know we can count on our Township businesses and businesspersons to lend a hand," McCormac said. 

For information on how to donate:

  • Call Peter Barcellona of the “We Feed Woodbridge” Food Bank Committee. All you need at call at 732-855-0600 x5034. He will arrange to pick up food donations with the help of student volunteers.
  • Non-perishable food items can also be dropped off at the Woodbridge Township Public Health Center at 2 George Frederick Plaza between 9 am and 4 pm weekdays.
  • Financial contributions made payable to “We Feed Woodbridge” can also be dropped off at the Health Center or mailed directly to the Woodbridge Department of Health & Human Services, c/o We Feed Woodbridge, 2 George Frederick Plaza, Woodbridge, NJ 07095. 
  • Every store, business, businessperson, and resident who participates in the 2012 Valentines Day 2/14 “Have-a-Heart” Food Drive Challenge will be recognized by the Township Administration and Municipal Council at an upcoming public meeting.
