Free Tax Preparation Offered to Seniors
Need help with your taxes? Get it for free - appointments can be made starting Jan. 16.
The and AARP have announced that they will be giving free tax preparation assistance to senior citizens. They will start taking appointments for help with tax prep on Monday, January 16, from 9 am to noon and from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm at the at 2 George Frederick Plaza next to the Main Library.
The actual tax preparation sessions begin the week of February 6, on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 9 am to 3 pm, and continue through Wednesday, April 11. When senior taxpayers receive their Property Tax Relief books (blue in color), they should call for an appointment.
There are some eligibility requirements. You must have all tax statements for your appointment, there is limited help with capital gains, and your gross annual income cannot exceed $70,000. The volunteers also cannot help landlords who deal with rental tax or rental income.
