FEMA Center Opens in Woodbridge

A FEMA van unfurled its sign, right at the Woodbridge Health Center today.

A FEMA Disaster Relief Center (DRC) just opened up in Linden, but now Woodbridge residents who experienced losses from Hurricane Sandy won't even have to go that far.

A DRC operated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency just opened up at the Woodbridge Health Center at George Frederick Plaza. That's the building right next to the Woodbridge Main Library near Woodbridge High School.

An employee said that the headquarters at the health center will be opened daily from 9 am to 7 pm to help people who suffered from storm-related damages. That's quite a number of people in Woodbridge Township, particularly in the Sewaren, Avenel, and Port Reading sections, flooded by Sandy's storm surge.

The FEMA presence in Woodbridge, the employee said, should be for 30 days.

To apply, go to the rear of the health center, where an enormous FEMA van is set up to help residents.

So far, there is no information on the township web's site about the FEMA DRC. Mayor John McCormac did not return phone calls, inquiring about the van or FEMA center.

For more information, the Health Center phone number is 732-855-0600.
