Council Proposes Increase in Sewer Fees

The amended ordinance had its first reading on Tuesday night.

A proposed amendment to the existing ordinance that governs township sewer usage would raise residential fees two percent, if approved.

According to the current ordinance, residential sewer fees are $0.00598 per gallon of water consumed. A two percent increase would raise those fees to $.00610.

A house that has annually consumed 50,000 gallons of water under the current sewer fees would pay $299. Under the proposed increase, the cost would rise to $305.

The amendment would also grant a break to commercial water users by allowing them to pay their connection fees over two installments, rather than in one lump sum, according to municipal clerk John Mitch.

The commercial users eligible for this payment structure would be those businesses that have connection fees in excess of $10,000, Mitch said.

The amended ordinance had its first reading at Tuesday's township council meeting. It will be put to a vote at a future meeting.
