Colonia Street to be Named After Hometown Hero

Marine Cpl. Kevin Reinhard, who perished in Afghanistan, will be remembered by the renaming of a street in his honor.


The Marine corporal who will be remembered this Memorial Day when a street in the section of Woodbridge in which he grew up is named in his honor.

The Township Council voted to rename Jordan Road in the Colonia section of Woodbridge to Cpl. Kevin Reinhard Way at Tuesday night's meeting, after the 25-year-old Marine who died in a .

"It is apropos," said Councilwoman Brenda Velasco said of the timing, since a gazebo erected in Charlie Shaughnessy Park in Colonia will be dedicated to Reinhard's memory on Saturday, May 26.

The $6,000 for the gazebo was , and the material and labor for its construction were donated as well. 

Reinhard attended Colonia schools and graduated from St. Joseph's High School in Metuchen before a stint at Rampo College. He transferred to Middlesex County College where he majored in Criminal Science.

Reinhard enlisted in the Marines in 2008. He was promoted to the rank of corporal and had only a few weeks left in his second deployment when the helicopter he had boarded crashed in Afghanistan.

His to St. Gertrude's Cemetery drew thousands of mourners to the streets of Colonia.
