Christie Nominates Freeholder Director Christopher Rafano to NJ Superior Court

Woodbridge may be losing a prosecutor, but Middlesex County may be gaining a Superior Court judge.

Christopher D. Rafano, who serves in the Woodbridge Municipal Court as a prosecutor and in Middlesex County as the freeholder director, has been nominated by Gov. Chris Christie on Monday to the New Jersey Superior Court, according to a press release from the governor's office.

Rafano, a Democrat who has law offices in South River, also holds a prosecutor position in Jamesburg. He's been on the Board of Freeholders since 1998.

Christie also nominated a Republican candidate to the Superior Court. J. Randall Corman is an attorney and currently is employed as an administrative law judge. 

Corman, who served as a Sayreville councilman and director of law to the NJ Turnpike Authority, was elected in 1991 as the 19th District state senator in the anti-tax sentiment against then-Governor Jim Florio.

He was defeated in 1993 by Jim McGreevey, who served as mayor of Woodbridge and state sentator before his subsequent election to the New Jersey governorship in 2001 and resignation amid scandal three years later.

Both Rafano and Corman will appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee for their confirmation interviews. No date could be ascertained for the hearings.
