Burlington Coat Factory Will Open Friday - With or Without a Parking Deck

The retail store is slated to have its grand opening a month to the day part of the parking deck collapsed. The cause is still unknown.

Come hell, high water, or the lack of a functional parking deck, the Burlington Coat Factory is going to open on time.

That's the word from the owners of the new retail store, which is set for its grand opening this Friday, September 21 - exactly a month after a portion of the parking deck that fronts the store suddenly collapsed for reasons still unknown.

"It's meant to open on the 21st, and it is opening on the 21st," said Christa Segalini, spokeswoman for Woodbridge-based Onyx Equities, the company that owns and manages the building. "I'm not sure if the parking deck will be open. The store is definitely opening."

In the month since the collapse on August 21, there has been little to no word on the cause of the deck collapse,, route: {:controller=>"articles", :action=>"show", :id=>"questions-raised-about-cause-of-deck-collapse"} --> or who is responsible for overseeing the repair. There has also been no information released on the status of the rest of the deck, and

This is just crazy. No work has been done to repair the collapsed parking deck. Who knows if any inspections have even taken place. Work on the building has continued however. How could they be allowed to open and put peoples lives at risk? I certainly won't risk my life to go shopping. This parking deck should be the top priority before store managment even considers opening their doors for business. Employees who need to work will be put in a hard situation. Show up at work and risk their life, or lose a much needed job? This is so wrong. Until there are answers and solutions to the structural problems, NO ONE should be allowed on the property.

They better have a really big "Mind the Gap" sign. Seriously, though, I'm really looking forward to the place opening but won't be going until I know it's safe.

Hey Tom did you expect anything from the goof-balls at 1 Mai Street? You have a better chance that God will come down from Heaven to inspect and insure the safety of the shoppers.

I think Burlington actually opened yesterday. I wonder how many people showed up? Still no repairs to the parking deck. How can they be allowed to open? It really makes no sense. The parking deck has not yet been deemed safe and I think we have regulations that state businesses must have ample parking.
