Woodbridge Woman Gets 4 Years for Stealing $302K from Boss

Joan Baskakow, 51, was sentenced on Monday.

A Woodbridge woman was sentenced to four years in prison for stealing $302,000 from a physicianโ€™s office she worked for in North Brunswick, Middlesex County Acting Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey announced Tuesday.

Joan Baskakow, 51, stole the money from the physician she was working for as an office assistant. Baskakow was ordered to repay the money that she took between April of 2005 and April of 2012 and she has repaid $90,000 thus far, according to the prosecutorโ€™s office.

She also signed a consent order to repay the balance, the Prosecutor's office said.

Baskakow was investigated after the physician contacted police about the thefts.

Lisa Collins and Lt. Daniel DelBagno of the Middlesex County Prosecutorโ€™s office determined that Baskakow took 680 checks of various amounts and deposited them in a personal bank account.

Superior Court Judge Bradley Ferencz sentenced Baskakow on June 3 in New Brunswick. She pleaded guilty to one count of theft by unlawful taking on April 2.
