Woodbridge PD's Spy Cameras are Trained on Hess's Solar Panels

Thieves are finding an open field of solar panels on upper Main Street to be a tempting target.

Remember the that Middlesex County owns, and Woodbridge signed up to borrow in case of emergency?

It seems Woodbridge has its owns mini spy cameras - or to be more technical, mobile surveillance trailers - and they are using them to protect that Hess set up on upper Main Street.

Seems that thieves have been walking off with wire and some other items, said Captain Roy Hoppock.

"We've stepped up patrols in the area," Hoppock said.

So far, though, no damage has come to the open acreage of solar panels that Hess put up in February. The power generated from is said to provide 25 percent of the energy needs of the nearby 14-story Hess Building.

The solar panels are still in good condition, and apparently the police want it to stay that way. That's why the mobile surveillance trailer, painted with the logo of the Woodbridge Police Department on it, has been set up inside the fence by the solar panel field.

Few details were available, though, on how many such trailers the police department has, the cost, and how else the trailers are being used.

"No comment," Hoppock said.
