Woodbridge Avenue Vehicle Search Yields $8,000 in Stolen Merchandise

Police seized 60 items valued at over $8,000, all purchased with stolen credit cards, police say.

A stopped vehicle on Woodbridge Avenue contained a trove of stolen electronics, toys and gift cards two days before Christmas.

At 3:20 a.m. Dec. 23, two officers on routine patrol stopped to check out a vehicle stopped in the middle of E. Woodbridge Avenue near Route 1 in Avenel, according to a press release from the Woodbridge Police Department.

Upon gaining consent to search the vehicle, they discovered and seized 60 items purchased with fraudulent credit cards, including XBOX One systems and games, DVDs, toys, and gift cards, according to the release.

Xavier O. Pompey, 29, of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Justin R. Pompey, 24, of Springfield Gardens, N.Y. were both arrested and charged with Credit Card Theft, Fraudulent Use of Credit Card, Forgery, Conspiracy, Theft By Deception, and Wrongful Impersonating. 

The worth of the items stolen was over $8,000, according to the release. The items came from Toys R' Us, Kohls, Walmart and Gamestop stores.

Both men were held at the Middlesex County Jail in North Brunswick on $50,000 bail with no 10 percent option, according to the release.
