With Few Leads, Police Seek Info on a Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident

An Elizabeth man died in a hit-and-run motorcycle accident Sunday night. Can you help?

Woodbridge police are asking for help in solving a fatal motorcycle accident. 

Late Sunday night, police received a report that a motorcycle was on fire in the northbound lanes of Route 1. Police found a red Suzuki motorcycle ablaze in the center lane; they also found Angel Hernandez, 28, of Elizabeth severely injured and lying in the right lane of the highway.

Hernandez was treated at the scene and taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Rahway. He was pronounced dead an hour later.

The accident was called in at 10:10 pm, and it occurred near the intersection of Mitchell Place in Avenel.

The incident is under investigation as a possible hit and run, but police said they have few leads in identifying the vehicle and driver responsible for the accident.

Anyone who witnessed the accident, or who has any information that can help in the investigation, is urged to call Sgt. Eric Nelson or Officer Jesse Chessere of the Woodbridge Police Dept. at 732-634-7700. All information will remain confidential, police said.
