Two Firefighters Injured In Harrell Avenue Basement Fire

The fire broke out Wednesday morning in a single-family home.

Two Woodbridge firefighters were taken to the hospital after battling a fire on Harrell Avenue in Woodbridge on Wednesday.

The fire broke out around 10 a.m. in the basement of a single family home at 724 Harrell Avenue, according to Woodbridge Fire Capt. Jeffrey Moran. The elderly couple who resides at the address were evacuated and sustained no injuries, he added.

However, two Woodbridge firefighters were injured as they battled the fire from the basement stairs and fell through, Moran said. They were both treated for smoke inhalation at John F. Kennedy Hospital and also suffered minor injuries.

The basement of the home was severely damaged. At about 11 a.m. the fire had been placed under control by the department.
