Clark Police arrested two men alleged to have been involved in an early Tuesday morning carjacking that began in Woodbridge.

Clark police learned that the alleged carjackers began their spree in Woodbridge before attempted a second carjacking in Newark, but were thwarted when Newark police arrived on the scene. The suspects were then able to allude police, eventually winding up in Clark, says Clark Police Chief Alan Scherb.

According to Scherb, around 8 a.m. Tuesday a resident spotted two men running from a vehicle parked on Florence Drive and called police. Police officers spotted the men walking about a block away and apprehended them, says Scherb.

"After searching the vehicle, evidence suggested there might be a third suspect and so we began a search," Scherb told Patch. "But we don’t know if he actually came into Clark or was dropped off somewhere before they arrived here."

Scherb says Clark Police, State Police and a State Police helicopter searched the wooded area between Walnut Avenue and the Parkway but did not find a third suspect, ending the search around 1 p.m.

Scherb says the investigation is ongoing and could not yet release the names of the two men arrested.

Woodbridge Police Capt. Roy Hoppock said the department is still investigating and will release more information as it becomes available.

On Monday evening, a car was stolen from the Iselin section of Woodbridge after a driver left his keys in the ignition as he entered the convenience store of the Exxon gas station on Oak Tree Road.
