The primary water supply to East Brunswick has been compromised because of a big break in a water main.

The break occurred at 2 p.m. Thursday on Ryders Lane in North Brunswick and has impacted the township's water supply.

Ryders Lane was closed Thursday from Tices Lane to Route 1in both directions.

Police are asking residents to conserve water and advises against outside watering and other unnecessary usage.

Damage assessment crews are determining the total impact the break will have. The township is working with state, county and local agencies to prevent an emergency and will release details as they arrive.
