Teenager Charged in Child Sex Assault

A teenage employee of a Metuchen sports facility is accused of improperly touching a 7-year-old girl.


A teenage employee of a Metuchen sports facility has been charged with improperly touching a 7-year-old girl.

The teenager, whose identity and age are being withheld, was charged on April 2 with juvenile delinquency for sexually assaulting and endangering the welfare of the child, said Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan in a statement.

An investigation was immediately launched on April 1 after the girl's mother contracted police. She said that her daughter had been assaulted earlier that day at the SMG Sportsplex on Durham Avenue, Metuchen Police Chief Robin Retenberg said in a statement.

Police said that the teenage boy had been working at the complex since August of last year.

The teenager was being held at the Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center in North Brunswick following a Family Court hearing in New Brunswick Wednesday before Superior Court Judge James F. Hyland.

The assailant was charged during the investigation by Detective Peter Knoll of the Metuchen Police Department and Investigator Jeffrey Maroccia of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
