Suspended WHS Supervisor Demoted to Iselin Middle School Teacher

Brian Russo has been reassigned as a special education teacher.

Brian Russo, who was suspended as supervisor of guidance and special education at Woodbridge High School, has been reassigned as a special education teacher at Iselin Middle School.

The 12-month contract Russo held as supervisor of guidance and special education was terminated with cause, Board Attorney Jonathan Busch said. The board declined to comment further saying it is a personnel issue.

He was reassigned a Special Education teaching position at Iselin Middle School, Busch added.

His salary was held at $73,162, which is what he would have been paid as a special education teacher for the 2012-13 school year, according to Busch.

Russo was suspended on June 13 pending an investigation, according to the personnel report distributed at that evening’s Board of Education meeting.

Russo, a Woodbridge High graduate, resigned as the school’s head football coach last summer to take the guidance/special education department supervisor position for this school year.

Superintendent Dr. Robert Zega has 10 days to inform Russo in writing of the reassignment, Busch stated.
