Power is Still Out in Some Parts of Woodbridge Due to Freak Snowstorm

Woodbridge is in one of the five counties hardest hit by downed powerlines, according to PSE&G.

Woodbridge is recovering from the freak snowstorm that blanketed the township on Saturday through Sunday morning.

The storm took down power lines and caused a myriad of fender bender mishaps, as township residents scrambled to deal with a blizzard when only the day before, temperatures on the late October day had been in the 60s.

A day later, some Woodbridge residents were still without power. "People are still calling that their power is out," said Woodbridge police dispatcher Phil Riveria.

According to PSE&G, Middlesex County is one of the hardest-hit counties in the state in terms of power outages from ice-laden trees and branches, and slip and slide accidents from the heavy, sodden blizzard.

As of 2:30 pm on Sunday, Oct. 30, PSE&G was reporting that approximately 324,000 customers in the state were without power. There were five counties struggling with the largest number of power outages: Bergen, Essex, Passaic, Union, and Middlesex.

PSE&G said in a recorded message that full power might not be restored to Bergen and Essex counties until Wednesday. They also warned not to go near downed power lines, but to call police immediately.

Township plows were out Saturday night, lightly clearing the sludge off streets so that in the bright sunshine of Sunday, almost all roads were mostly free of snow.

The township cable channel on Comcast channel 34 was updated to let viewers know that the Woodbridge High School Choir's Haunted House benefit would be held on Sunday at the old Linens and Things building because of inclement weather.

The event will take place at 6 pm for young children and 7 pm for older children and adults.

Stay tuned for further updates on the Halloween snowstorm.
