Perth Amboy Middle School Evacuated Due to Bomb Threat

Students at the Shull School got an unexpected break earlier today when they were removed to Perth Amboy High School because of a bomb threat.

A Perth Amboy middle school had a shock this morning, when students were evacuated due to a bomb threat.

The Samuel E. Shull School on Hall Avenue was emptied quickly this morning when administrators received "a vague bomb threat," said Perth Amboy Schools Superintendent Janine Caffrey.

"As a precautionary measure, we took the students into the nearby [Perth Amboy] High School while the police swept the building," Caffrey said.

While police conducted their investigation of the building, the Shull middle schoolers were "kept happy and fed by the high school staff," the superintendent said.

No bombs or other devices were found, and the Shull students reconvened their classes by 12:30 pm.

"It was one of those deals where everything worked as it should have," Caffrey said.Β

The Perth Amboy district's emergency evacuation plan was put into place, and the superintendent had nothing but praise for how the district's personnel, and the police and fire departments handled their jobs.

"There were no glitches at all," Caffrey said. "The staff worked admirably, and the police department was a great partner in this situation.

"It was a good drill."
