No Word Yet on What Killed Nicholas Sorice

Six weeks after his body was dumped on an Iselin street, there is no answer as to what Sorice, 26, died of.

What killed Nicholas Sorice is still a mystery.

More than six weeks after the 26-year-old man’s body was found dumped on a street in Iselin, the results of a toxicology screening done by the county medical examiner still have not come back.

Authorities initially said it would take from two to six weeks for the results.

“I want to know what happened. We’ve been told the results aren’t complete yet,” said Carmen Sorice, the father of the dead man.

Nicholas Sorice, a Colonia native, was found May 18 on Willow Ave. near Route 27, a street not far from the Metropark train station. He had allegedly been riding in a car driven by Frank Barbaccia, an acquaintance, when Barbaccia pushed Sorice’s body out onto the Willow Ave. roadway.

Barbaccia, 44, of Congers, NY, was released on bail after being arrested by police on charges of the improper disposal of a human body. Barbaccia was also charged with giving false statements to authorities during their investigation into the circumstances of Sorice’s death.

There have been no other arrests in the case.

In the past, Sorice had been arrested on charges of drug possession. There has been no indication so far that illegal drugs played any role in his death.

Carmen Sorice said the county prosecutor has kept him abreast of developments in his son’s death.

He’s still waiting for word on what killed Nicholas “in the next week or two.”

“We’re looking for closure,” the grieving father said. “We’re trying our best to deal with it. It’s the hardest thing anyone can go through.”
