Money, Credit Cards Stolen in Area Break-Ins

Three vehicles on the same date and the same roadway had two other things in common - the owners left the doors unlocked and left valuables inside.

Drivers probably shouldn't keep money, ID, credit cards, or other valuables in their automobiles - but they do, locking the car door would probably be a good plan.

Three vehicle break-ins in the Woodbridge area in recent weeks had less to do with breaking in and more with the burglars just opening an unlocked car door, according to Woodbridge police reports.

All three occurred at approximately the same date - February 24 - and all were at buinesses on Route 1.

At one heist, police responded to a call about a woman's 2002 Honda Civic. The vehicle owner told police she had returned to her car, parked in the lot of Best Buy on Route 1, and found her Coach purse missing from the vehicle. Also gone with her car speakers.

Police found the driver's side door open and no sign of forced entry.

On the same date, further down on Route 1, a distressed caller from the Comfort Inn Suites told police his GPS device was missing from his late model truck. The vehicle had been ransacked, but again, there was no sign of a forced entry.

The truck owner said he thought he had locked the truck before he went into the hotel for the evening.

Then there was the break-in at the Fairfield Inn on Route 1. A woman called police to say her wallet was gone from her unlocked vehicle. Missing was $200 in cash, and all her credit cards and personal ID - including her driver's license, her Social Security card, and the Social Security cards of her children that she carried with her.

No suspects have been arrested in any of the incidents.
