Matthew Jago School Briefly Placed on Lockdown Wednesday Morning

The school was placed on a lockdown around 9:30 a.m. after Police received reports of "gunshots" or "fireworks," but reports ended up being false.


On Wednesday morning Matthew Jago School #28 in Sewaren was placed on a lockdown after the Woodbridge Police Department received reports at around 9:30 a.m. of gunshots or fireworks in the area. After a full security check, the reports were deemed false and the lockdown was lifted at 10:45 a.m., according to officials.

Upon receiving the report, Woodbridge PD performed a full check of the school, interviewed residents and concluded that the reports received were false, according to John Hagerty of the Mayor’s Office of Communications for the township.

Parents, guardians and residents were informed of the initial lockdown via the Honeywell Alert system through the school district, they also received an “all-clear” alert at 10:45 p.m. once the reports came up negative.
