Cops: Armed Robber Thought Victim Was Someone Else

A Carteret man used an Air Soft gun in robbery attempt, according to police.

A Carteret man is accused of trying to rob a pedestrian on Rahway Avenue with an Air Soft gun until he realized the person wasn't who he thought it was.

Shariff O Lee, 26, was charged with robbery, unlawful possession of weapon, possession of weapon for unlawful purposes, certain person not to have weapons and contempt.

According to Woodbridge Police, Lee approached a person on Rahway Avenue Tuesday night at about 11:30 p.m., pulled out a gun and demanded money.

The victim pulled out a cell phone and a few dollars, but Lee declined the items and said he thought the victim was someone else, police said.

After receiving the report of an armed robbery, officers located Lee near where the incident occurred, police said.Β  Police also recovered the gun nearby.

Lee was transported to Middlesex County Jail and held on $250,000 bail with no 10 percent.Β  Β
