Man Assaulted in Iselin Restaurant Parking Lot

Police have few leads in the early-morning attack.

A man was assaulted with a metal instrument during a fight in the parking lot of the restaurant in Iselin early Friday morning.

According to Captain Roy Hoppock, the assault, which took place at 2:38 am, began when one of the persons the victim was with in the parking lot went to one of the other cars in the lot and started a conversation with the occupants.  For unknown reasons, a fight then broke out.

“An unknown male retrieved a metal object and hit him over the head,” said Hoppock, noting the object was likely a tire iron or tool.  The assailants then fled the scene, Hoppock said.

The victim refused medical attention.  The victim and witnesses at the scene “could not provide any vehicle information whatsoever – color of the vehicle, description of the suspects, make and model of the car, nothing,” said Hoppock.

Hoppock stated that a detective has been assigned to the case in an attempt to locate more witnesses, but as of now there is little information to go on.
