Kensington Gardens in Fords Hit with a Rash of Burglaries

Four apartments in the same Wisteria Drive building were broken into on the same day.

Crime pays, or at least it was efficient this past Monday. That's when thieves slipped into a Kensington Gardens apartment building and picked off four apartments in a row, making off with thousands of dollars in jewelry.

said they were called by a 58-year-old resident of the apartment, located in the Fords section of Woodbridge, who had been the last of the victims to leave her apartment at 11:45 am on May 21, and the first to return at approximately 4:30 pm.

The woman came home to discover that her door had been pried open and her bedroom ransacked. Jewelry, including a gold chain, worth about $700 had been taken.

Three other apartments in the same area had been burglarized as well. Police theorize the thief had slipped the locked door to the common area to gain entrance to the building.

Police had the apartment management call the other tenants who had been victimized. They observed the same pattern in the other apartments - pry marks around the door jamb, a broken deadbolt lock on the floor, and the bedrooms ransacked.

Another of the victims, a 46-year-old woman, discovered that several diamond rings had been taken from her apartment. She didn't have a ready estimate of their value.
