Iselin Man Arrested After Attempting to Steal a Weed Whacker

An officer was injured while attempting to arrest the suspect.

An Iselin man was caught digging through a neighbor’s shed Sunday night before taking off with a weed whacker.

The burglary-turned-robbery occurred around 9 PM Sunday night at a home on South McKinley Ave. in Iselin.  The victim of the crime found Steven W. Zakarevicis of Iselin in the shed of his residence.  When confronted, the suspect fled, a weed whacker in hand.

The victim chased Zakarevicis, who then turn on the victim, brandishing a knife.  The victim went at the suspect’s arm, causing Zakarevicis to drop the knife and flee into the Cloverleaf Cemetery.
