Driver Blacks Out, Strikes Utility Pole on Main Street, Police Say

A single-car accident caused delays on Main Street on Wednesday morning.

A car struck a utility pole near the intersection of Main Street and Mary Avenue in Fords Wednesday morning leading to minor delays in the area near the bridge over the Parkway, according to police.

A 53-year-old woman from Woodbridge stated she blacked out prior to crashing her vehicle into a utility pole and damaging two sides of a fence on the corner property near the intersection of Mary Avenue and Main Street around 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday, according to Police Capt. Roy Hoppock.

The woman was taken to JFK Hospital for complaints of pain, Hoppock added.

The single-car accident caused delays as cars had to turn around on the bridge entering Fords from Main Street, and those traveling toward Woodbridge from Fords on Main Street had to detour on Mary Avenue. The area was closed until about 8 p.m. on Wednesday, according to Public Works Director Dennis Henry.

Main Street in that area is now open to traffic.
