Horse and Buggies Ring in Small Business Saturday on Main St.

If you were looking to get in the holiday mood, you couldn't have done better than a visit to Main St. on Saturday.

That's where the Downtown Merchants Association sponsored their special 'Holiday Stroll', a Yuletide event that featured horse-drawn buggy rides, visits from Santa and Mrs. Claus, and holiday tune crooning from a Christmas Elvis.

"It's great," said Shannon James, who was strolling down Main St. with her two children. "It's a great break for the kids. It puts you in the mood."

Both ends of Main St. were closed off, with the buggy rides eminating from School St. That was also the holiday stage for Elvis, who entertained passersby with "Blue Christmas" and other seasonal songs.

Stores up and down Woodbridge Proper's downtown shopping district were also open for business, since Saturday was a special shopping day devoted to encouraging shoppers to spend some of their holiday dollars locally. The Woodbridge Animal Shelter had a booth, which complimented other booths full of Christmas wreaths, centerpieces, and other decorations.

The festive holiday mood in Woodbrige's Main Street provided a welcome respite, said James. "It's simply pleasant and fun. I also did some shopping here," she said, holding up a bag.
