As a special touch to their annual breakfast with Santa on Saturday, Avenel Street School #4/5 donated $1,600 to a family that lost their home earlier this fall.

According to the Avenel Street School PTO, the family was surprised with $1,600 in donations that were collected from parents and staff over the last month.

In November, the Austria family of Avenel lost their Cornell Street home in an overnight fire.

"Being able to give such a substantial gift really warms my heart" said PTO president  Jill Schwear."We had such a nice morning, it was nice to spend the time with so many staff members who always are eager to lend a hand, our school principal Dr. LoGrande, and most of all our PTO Board. We truly are lucky to have such a wonderful school family."

It's great to hear of this kind of community based grass roots giving. Merry Christmas to the kids and adults!
