Spread Holiday Cheer, Benefit Rutgers Habitat for Humanity

The nonprofit will host an ornament fundraiser this month at Woodbridge Center Mall.

Rutgers Habitat for Humanity will host a make-your-own ornament fundraiser this month at the Woodbridge Center Mall for the purpose of raising $100,000 to build a Habitat for Humanity residence from the ground up.

The fundraiser will be held on Friday, Dec. 6 through Sunday, Dec. 8 and on Saturday, Dec. 21 and Sunday, Dec. 22. Hours of operation are 4-9 p.m. Friday, noon-8 p.m. Saturday and noon-6 p.m. Sunday.

Ornaments are $3.

According to Kathleen McGlynn, director of fundraising for Rutgers Habitat for Humanity, the organization recently passed the $50,000 mark in its fundraising efforts to fund a Plainfield residence.

"The home will be part of a "Habitat Village" in Plainfield that will have (two) two-family homes and one single family home," she said. "Currently, we send volunteers to the build site every weekend, so we are financially and physically making this house happen."

The fundraising campaign began in May 2012 when then-club president Sam Kovach-Orr committed the organization to raise $100,000 by May 2014 after hearing of other college chapters doing the same, she said.
