The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey and Murphy Writing Seminars have partnered to present the 20th Annual Winter Poetry and Prose Getaway to take place at historic Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club, January 18-21, 2013.

The conference attracts more than 200 writers and will offer a wide range of workshops such as Poetry Writing, Creative Writing Sampler, Turning Memory into Memoir, Writing and Publishing Your Fiction and more. The event is designed for writers to advance their craft and energize creativity.  Participants will enjoy challenging and supportive sessions, insightful feedback, and an encouraging community.

Southern New Jersey teachers whose schools are part of Stockton’s Educational Technology Training Center (ETTC) may attend the Winter Getaway using their school’s ETTC credits. In addition to engaging with the Common Core Standards, teachers will earn 18 hours of professional development credit.

Celebrating its 20th Anniversary, the Winter Getaway has become one of the oldest and largest writers' conferences in the winter season. Among the prestigious faculty are Stockton’s Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Creative Writing, Stephen Dunn, winner of the Pulitzer Prize in Poetry and nationally known poet, Dorianne Laux. Eligible teachers will be fortunate to join the ranks of the 200 writers who come from across the country to attend.

Faculty includes Stockton Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Creative Writing and Pulitzer Prize winner Stephen Dunn and Dorianne Laux, whose fourth book of poems, Facts about the Moon, is the recipient of the Oregon Book Award.

“Teachers who write become better teachers of writing,” said conference director Peter Murphy who taught writing at Atlantic City High School for 29 years. “The Winter Getaway provides supportive sessions, insightful feedback, and an encouraging community.”

“It was my first writing workshop and I had only written one piece, a short story, prior to coming,” said Julienne Pape who attended last year. "I like the atmosphere which engendered positive feedback and I am now inspired to write more."

“I had a wonderful experience at last year’s Winter Getaway,” said Stockton faculty member and Dean of Arts and Humanities Robert Gregg. “The response from all the participants was incredibly positive.”

Non educators may also register. For more information visit www.wintergetaway.com/ettc.
