Woodbridge and Central NJ is Under a Tornado Alert

The National Weather Service is warning of possible tornado activity, along with hail and winds up to 70 mph.

Most of New Jersey is under a tornado alert that is scheduled to last until 8 pm, according to the National Weather Service.

NOAA issued an alert shortly before 4 pm that the tornado warning encompassed all but the southernmost portion of the state. The entire region is also under a severe thunderstorm alert, along with warnings of hail and winds that could reach as high as 70 mph.

In the color-coded weather map that the government service put up on their website, the bright yellow portion included most of New Jersey. Yellow, according to the legend accompanying the map, denotes possible tornado activity.

According to the MCOEM, the storm was in Bucks County, PA as of 4:25 pm. They were anticipating severe thunderstorms for the Middlesex County area, along with hail and the possibility of tornado activity.Β

There is also a threat of severe winds up to 70 mph.

There was no word on how fast the storm was moving from Bucks County eastward.

Township spokesman John Hagerty said that the Woodbridge Office of Emergency Management "monitors all emergency situations."

"There's nothing we can put out there that isn't already out there," Hagerty said. "There's no need to panic the public. There's no need to provide an alert now."
