Flood-prone Homes Rebuild, Wait For Buyouts

A house on Watson Avenue, next to the Woodbridge River, is being hoisted atop cinder blocks to raise it out of the way of future flood waters.

August 15 was the deadline for residents with homes damaged by Hurricane Sandy to apply for a buyout through the federal Blue Acres program.

$300 million is available to purchase as many as 1,300 homes in flood-prone areas, including some in Woodbridge.
