Uno Chicago Grill to Host Whiskers Rescue Fundraiser

Want to help control the feral, untamed cat population? Dine at Uno's and a portion of the proceeds will go to this important work!

Uno Chicago Grill, located at at 61 Route 1 in Menlo Park Terrace, will be hosting a fundraiser on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, April 20, April 21, and April 22.  This is a fun way to raise money for Whiskers, a non-profit organization devoted to spaying and neutering feral cats.

You get to eat great food and the rescue raises much needed funds.  The way the fundraiser works is that you give a certificate to your server (available for download at http://files.meetup.com/581932/Uno_certificate_Whiskers%20Rescue.pdf ) and a portion of your bill will be donated to the rescue work.

Uno will donate 15 percent of your bill if total receipts for the fundraiser are $1,000 or less.  Uno will donate 20 percent of your bill if total receipts for the fundraiser are more than $1,000.

Whiskers Rescue, a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization is dedicated to spaying and neutering feral, untamed cats and releasing them back to their environment to live out their lives without contributing to the stray cat population.  Whiskers Rescue has been helping Woodbridge Township to reduce the number of kittens surrendered by using a proven humane and effective approach, Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). TNR is a non-lethal, three-step method to reduce the number of feral and stray cats both immediately and in the long term. The three steps to TNR are as follows.

  • Trap: Feral and stray cats are trapped using a safe, humane, live trap.
  • Neuter: Trapped cats are spayed or neutered by a veterinarian.
  • Return: The fixed cats are returned to their home.

Whiskers Rescue also places all friendly and adoptable cats in to foster homes until they find a forever home.  Funds are needed for their daily care.  Recently, Whiskers Rescue trapped many cats in an abandoned home and all of them needed medical care.  Most of these cats are friendly and adoptable.

Woodbridge Township has many more community cats that need to be trapped and spayed or neutered.  Cats can become pregnant as young as 4 months of age and can have up to 5 litters in one year. An intact female cat, her mate and their offspring can produce up to 420,000 cats over the course of 7 years.
By continuing to TNR Woodbridge’s community cats, Woodbridge Township will save approximately $285,000 a year according to the Best Friends Animal Society Trap, Neuter and Return Cost Savings Calculator.  Money must be raised in order for them to continue their important work.

Many of those who are opposed to TNR do not fully understand the impact of trapping these cats and having them killed. When a cat is permanently removed from a colony, other feral or stray cats move in and take up residence, replacing those who were removed. The numbers increase since these cats will reproduce and add to the colony.  TNR helps the community by stabilizing the population of the colony and, over time, reduces it. Spayed and neutered cats cease behaviors that cause complaints to animal control. Neutered males have no desire to mark their territory, so they stop spraying. Noise is reduced since females never go into heat, so the yowling created by mating no longer occurs. Male cats stop fighting because there are no females in heat to fight over. And a natural solution to the rodent population stays in place.

If you can’t attend the fundraiser, donations, in any amount are always welcome. All donations are tax deductible. Checks can be mailed to:
