Woodbridge Chamber Names Verizon Executive as Citizen of the Year

John P. Szeliga is the external affairs director for Verizon.

The Woodbridge Metro Chamber of Commerce honored Verizon External Affairs Director John P. Szeliga as 2013 Citizen of the Year at the 49th annual Chairman’s Awards Dinner held this month. 

According to a press release from the Woodbridge Metro Chamber of Commerce, Szeliga, of Spring Lake, was chosen to receive the award based on his "exemplary leadership and outstanding service to the Chamber and to the community at large."

He currently serves on the board of trustees -Monmouth Ocean Development Council; the board of trustees - Prevention First; the board of trustees- Dottie's House; the board of trustees- Monmouth Ocean Foundation for Children; the Infrastructure Advisory Committee FEMERA/BRAC Fort Monmouth; the CentraState Hospital Government Affairs Committee; as chairman of the board of trustees – The Jersey Shore Partnership; the Monmouth County Workforce Investment Board; board of trustees – Woodbridge Metro Chamber of Commerce; board of trustees – Greater Princeton Chamber of Commerce, 2nd Floor Advisory Committee of 180 Turning Lives Around; the board of trustees of the Somerset County Business Partnership; the Monmouth County Chairman of the Citizens Campaign; the NJ Corporate Stewardship Council;  and the Corporate Wetlands Restoration Committee, the release said.

He has also assisted in Hurricane Sandy recovery on the Critical Infrastructure Communications Sector Committee for New Jersey, coordinated by the Department of Homeland security, the release said.
