Sugaring is a relatively new concept for hair removal, but it's a process as old as the ancient Egyptians.
They usde a paste comprised mainly of sugar and water, slathered it on the skin, then pressed strips of linen onto the sugar paste and unwanted hair, and zip! The hair was gone.
is adding hair removal via sugaring to its roster of beauty services. They'll be offering a special Body Sugaring Day on Thursday, March 29, with promotional offers, service demonstrations, and complimentary gifts and refreshments.
Lina Kennedy, the president of Alexandria Professional, the company whose sugaring products the salon will be featuring, will also be at the event.
The Vito Mazza technicians who will be doing the sugaring have been professionally trained by Alexandria Professional; they are the only ones in New Jersey who are certified in the company's technique.
Sugaring holds a ton of advantages over waxing in getting rid of unwanted hair, experts say. First, unlike with wax that uses petrochemicals, sugar is all natural. The sugaring substance is also barely warm, so there is no danger of being burned, as there is with wax.
As anyone who has ever used wax to dehair, it sticks to everything, including healthy skin, so that "zip" can be very painful. With the sugaring method, the substance adheres only to the hair and dead skin cells, and when it's removed, the technician pulls in the growth direction of the hair. Sugar is also water soluble, vs. wax which requires a solvent to remove.
The result is a much less painless and non-disfiguring means of ridding yourself of hair.
