ShopRite Lowers Spending Threshold to Get Free Turkeys

The point was not that Shoprite doesn't donate food to the needy, they certainly do. The point is that it is ridiculous to praise them for dropping the minimum back down to $300. They are doing this because many of their stores were out of power resulting in lost days where ppl could not shop during the qualifying period. It's nice of them to do this, but I wouldn't call it an act "to help people affected by Sandy". I think by calling it that, they are just trying to look good. And a corporation such as this should have another way to help those affected by Sandy rather than such a minimal act.

They have done much to help those effected by the storm . . . again get your facts straight. I swear some people just aren't happy unless they have something to complain about. Find something "real" to complain about. Did you lose a loved one to the storm? Did you lose your house and everything in it? If so, I'm deeply sorry for you and everyone who has. The ones who did aren't complaining about such trivial BS.

Back in October, I questioned whether they shortened the time to achieve the $400. Didn't they used to start it in September?

Jerseyshore girl is right. ShopRite is a great corporate citizen. A lot of companies like to get the PR out of doing something minimal or with a ton of strings. ShopRite is the opposite.

There was no complaining here, simply a comment stating my opinion about the article. To ask me if I lost a loved one or lost my home in the storm is frankly in poor taste and would be hurtful to any readers who have suffered such a loss.

You only have to spend $150 to get a free turkey at the new Fresh Grocer by Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick. It is open 24 hours too.

What I would like to know is why it went up to 400.00 when it has always been 300.00? Anyway you look at it we always wind up getting screwed!

ShopRite or any store for that matter does not, and I repeat does not have to give you anything. They are a business and it is there choice to do this promotion. If you don't like it, then don't do it...Don't get your free turkey...I am thankful to ShopRite for what they have chosen to do...I get my free turkey and I give it to the Outreach program in my church so a needy family has something for Thanksgiving..Be glad for what you have. So many people have nothing..Live each and every day to it's fullest...Be Happy and be Kind...Life is truly very short don't waste your time on the negative..Negative gets negative...Positive gets positive...Have a Blessed Thanksgiving..and really be thankful for what you have , not what you don't have..

What a bunch of whiners on here. If you can't spend $3-400 in a couple weeks of grocery shopping, do you really need a whole turkey anyway?? I spend $400 at shoprite in 2 trips. If my family was any smaller I what the heck would I do with a whole turkey?

Great move by Shoprite. We are about $30 away from $300 and need to find a way to donate it now. Complainers need to get a grip on reality.

Wakefern Food Corp. announced today that on behalf of its ShopRite and PriceRite stores, it will donate up to $1 million in both funds and in-kind donations to assist in the relief efforts for those struggling in the wake of super storm Sandy.
The company’s support will focus on regional food banks in the areas its stores serve throughout the Northeast who are providing meals and other assistance to those who have been displaced from their homes. “The areas hardest hit by the storm are at the center of where our stores are located and our associates live. Many of those devastated by Sandy are our friends and neighbors. Reaching out and providing meals and other supplies remains our primary focus and effort in the days following the storm, said Joseph Colalillo, chairman and CEO of Wakefern Food Corp. "To that end, Wakefern has committed $1 million in funds and in-kind donations to help aid in post-storm relief and recovery." In the hours following the storm, individual stores began addressing the needs of their communities, donating food, water and ice to local charities and government agencies. As relief efforts progressed, truckloads of food, water and prepared meals have been dispatched from Wakefern’s warehouses to regional food banks that are on the front line of relief efforts.

All of you complaining what have you donated? I know, you are one of the people that go to shop rite and ask for a donation, so you can get the credit for it. This program has been working for years, so much in the past free turkey donations were turned away from shelters, because in the past you could earn multiple free turkeys

What are you donating? Read up on all the donations they make year round, not just because of Sandy. In the past you did get multiple free turkeys, so many chutes and shelters were refusing them.

Hey stay at home mama did Wakefern Food Corp, tell you that 10 years ago they use to add chicken bones to the package to bring of the weight to charge you somemore. If you need to check ask New Jersey weights and measures, there always finding problems with there scales. This is won of there locked in savings. As far as the free turkey your paying for it. Or how about the 28% profit they make on the poland spring water you buy. I asked the question in shoprite so who votes them as being the best supermarket 14 years in a row, couldn't get a straight answer, must be the company that makes the signs.

Never heard of the chicken bone nor do I believe you. I am sure you ask random cashiers who wouldn't know what you are talking about regarding a survey. I spend a lot on groceries no matter what so the turkey is a bonus. I buy what is on sale in fact they had a deal on Poland spring water the week of the storm.Hopefully you don't shop there, being you are so unsatisfied. I hope your not one that keeps going and complaining.

Stay at home MaMa: Ever since the day the Meat Package Manager Told my Aunt that she needed to add the extra bones to bring the weight up, she told him no way, that's fraud. Well just think today he's the district manager for 4 stores! As far as for the cashiers they nothing but robots. Pickup object then scan, then put object in bag. I suppose you one of those shoppers that goes for the sucker rewards, buy 7 p&g products and get $5.00 off your next shopping trip. While this week hellman's is $2.88, during reward week it's $4.59 another locked in saving at scamrite. Wholesale on poland spring is only $0.12 a bottle or $2.88 a case. This week's sale on poland spring 2 for $8.00, great deal for shoprite 39% profit.

Well then you never worked in retail, their markup is almost 100% ..Are you not going to shop for anything anymore, make your own clothes,grow your own food, raise your own cows and chickens! Official business. I don't coupon or hoard I buy what I need and buy what is on sale. I am not familiar with the reward program, my guess would be kraft or p&g sets that up. Yes they make a profit how could they stay in business if they didn't. Shop rites are individually owned I am confident that your meat story didn't take place at a Perlmart store. Again I hope you choose to shop elsewhere and don't just go to complain and study the flyer.
