Loman Ford Hosts a Car Show to Benefit Eric LeGrand

The automobile dealership and other local businesses did their bit Saturday for the local hometime hero.

Food, games, and a raffle on a hot summer day was the scene at the Loman Ford Kia event held in honor of Eric LeGrand, the Rutgers football player who has been making significant progress since his tragic accident on the field.

It was the first stop off for LeGrand on Saturday. The second event - an 18-band concert in Alvin P. Williams Park in Sewaren - was going just beginning as the Loman event was underway. The Loman Ford Kia event was held across the street from the Route 1 dealership, in the parking lot of Staples.

About a hundred LeGrand supporters showed up to stand next to Eric as he was presented with three large checks from local Woodbridge businesses and the Mayor John McCormac's personal charity fund.

The largest of the checks was for $10,000, from the dealership, and donated in the names of customers who had purchased vehicles. Mayor John McCormac used his personal charity fund as a conduit for giving the money to LeGrand.

The money "will go a long way to help Eric and his family out through some tough times but the fundraising efforts will not stop here," explained Scott Miller, Loman Ford's lead organizer for the event.

A second check for $1,316 was presented to Eric from Lincoln Tech Institute. There is more fundraising to come: from July 23rd to August 15th Capital One bank will donate $5 to the Eric LeGrand Fund for every customer who comes in and opens an account or talks to a representative, explained Chris Santora, Assistant Branch Manager at Capital One.

Michael Good from Houlihan's presented the LeGrand family with three $50 gift certificates to come in and dine at the restaurant. An additional amount of over $200 was raised from various charity funds from the Woodbridge area.

Eric conveyed his deep appreciation to the community, his loyal supporters, and his unwavering faith. "Thanks to everyone for coming here. Thank God for everything," said LeGrand.
